Karen O’Toole
Karen O’Toole is Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel with Fidelity Investments. Ms. O’Toole leads a team with current areas of responsibility that include counseling Fidelity’s oversight groups such as audit, security, compliance and risk, managing internal investigations and representing the firm in regulatory matters. They advise on issues such as anti-corruption compliance, anti-money laundering and OFAC/sanctions, political contributions and pay to play laws, insider trading and broker dealer compliance. Previously, Ms. O’Toole was responsible for representing the firm in litigation and arbitration matters.
Ms. O’Toole is Executive Vice President of the SIFMA Compliance and Legal Society Executive Committee and chaired the 2022 SIFMA C&L Annual Seminar. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Boston’s Cathedral High School and co-chaired the Annual Adopt-A-Student Foundation Dinner benefiting Cathedral. Ms. O’Toole is also member of the board of the Heights, Boston College’s independent student newspaper. She served a member of the Boston Bar Association’s (“BBA”) COVID Crisis Response Group, the BBA’s Executive Committee and Council, Society of Fellows, Financial Services Committee and Law Day Dinner.
Prior to joining Fidelity, Ms. O’Toole was in private practice where she represented clients in a broad array of securities litigation matters. Ms. O’Toole began her career as a law clerk to the Justices of the Superior Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She is a member of bars of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the First Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. O’Toole is a graduate of Boston College Law School and Boston College. She lives in Milton, Massachusetts with her husband Bob, children John and Amanda, and dog Louis.
