Edward R. McNicholas is co-leader of Ropes & Gray LLP’s Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. His practice focuses on clients facing complex information technology, constitutional and privacy issues. Recognized by the National Law Journal as a “Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Trailblazer,” Ed has significant experience with litigation and counseling matters involving cybersecurity, privacy and data protection, online advertising, and artificial intelligence. He is the editor and co-author of the leading cybersecurity legal treatise, “Cybersecurity: A Practical Guide to the Law of Cyber Risk.” Chambers USA and Chambers Global have highly ranked Ed as Leading Lawyers for privacy for more than a decade. Mr. McNicholas previously served as an Associate White House Counsel. Mr. McNicholas received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. He received his A.B. from Princeton University, and clerked for the Honorable Paul Niemeyer on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
