Cheryl Smith

Managing Director, Private Wealth Manager, Sports & Entertainment Advisor, Jones Zafari Group, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management

Before launching her financial career, Cheryl spent more than a decade in the entertainment industry. During that time, she also followed her passion for investing and co-founded an online investment club, a book soon followed along with a website utilized by 700 investment clubs across North America. Thus began her advocacy for entrepreneurs and women to take hold of their financial futures, and led to her dedicating the past 17 years to providing wealth management advice to a distinctly successful group of clients.

Today, Cheryl serves a select circle of CEOs, founders and entrepreneurs.  Financially sophisticated but strapped for time, these clients look for clarity, simplicity, and security in managing their wealth – whether they’re dealing with highly appreciated stock, planning for a liquidity event, achieving tax efficiencies, or borrowing against their assets.

Cheryl was named to the Forbes “America’s Top Women Wealth Advisors” List in 2021 and to the Forbes “Best-in-State Wealth Advisors” list in 2021. She holds several industry certifications, including:

  • CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.
  • Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) from the Exit Planning Institute

A native of the Bay Area, Cheryl holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Business from UCLA. She is a voting member of the Academy of Television and serves on two advisory boards at the University of San Francisco: Women in Leadership and Philanthropy, and The Deans Circle for the School of Management.  Cheryl is also a Barron’s in Education sponsor for USF and, since 2016, has sponsored San Francisco’s Frameline Film Festival – the world’s largest LGBTQ film festival. Cheryl’s favorite “away from the office” moments are spent with her husband, Forrest, their two adult children and their dog, “Bentley”.
