David Castillo, Ph.D.

Dr. David (Dave) Castillo is Managing Director and Firmwide Head of AI & ML Technology at JPMC. In this role he is responsible for JPMC’s AI & ML product ecosystem in public cloud (AWS, Azure, and GCP).  Dave is passionate about driving transformational change across the firm by providing business and technology users with AI & ML products to propel their use cases. He is also responsible for developing the firm’s first generative AI series of products and services. Dave is a 25+ year career veteran in the application of AI to large, medium, and small business use cases spanning multiple industries including aerospace, telecommunications, ad tech, and financial services, as well as being a two-time entrepreneur.

Prior to arriving at JPMC, Dave was the Head of Capital One’s Center for Machine Learning (C4ML) where he was responsible for i) developing Capital One’s ML platform ecosystem, ii) leading ML application engagements, and iii) sponsoring the firm’s Applied ML Research Center. As leader of C4ML, Dave and his team developed the firm’s first fully automated, no touch, auto ML retraining system. Prior to Capital One, Dave was part of the team that developed Zelle.

Dr. Castillo began his career developing artificial intelligence applications for NASA. He has since held executive leadership positions in AI and ML for Capital One, Early Warning Services (Zelle), Voltari, Motricity, and Motorola. He has founded and sold two startups in the areas of automated machine learning for online real-time bidding in mobile marketing and advertising.
