David McSweeney

Director, Technical Investigations, Fidelity Investments

David McSweeney is a Director in Fidelity’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), assigned to the Cyber Fraud Fusion Center, and responsible for detecting, preventing and investigating cyber incidents and fraud, related to client accounts.  As manager of FIU’s Client Incident Response Program, he guides efforts to correlate cyber security incidents occurring outside of Fidelity with Fidelity clients, ultimately alerting them to the potential risk and providing technical subject matter expertise when desired. He is a regular speaker at Fidelity and client sponsored events on topics related to cyber fraud and investigation, and enjoys speaking with clients to help them better understand current cyber threats. David joined Fidelity in 2018.

Prior to Fidelity, David was Vice President of Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) in Stroz Friedberg’s (Aon Cyber Solutions) Boston and Washington DC offices. David managed DFIR Lab personnel and operations, providing group oversight and engaging with clients on criminal and civil matters involving the investigation of cyber incidents and technical response.

David also completed a twenty-four year career with the Massachusetts State Police (MSP), most recently as the Executive Officer in the agency’s Cyber Crimes Unit. During his career in law enforcement, he spent twenty years in the Division of Investigative Services primarily focused in the areas of cyber investigations, digital forensics, and technical incident management, supporting all types of criminal and civil investigations. While assigned to the MSP-Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, he founded the office’s Digital Forensics Section and was responsible for directing all personnel and operations regarding technical investigations, the search and seizure of digital evidence, and digital forensic analysis.
