Jonathan Larsen

Director, Field Operations, Northern Area, IRS: Criminal Investigation

Jonathan Larsen is the Director, Field Operations (Northern Area) with Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) and provides executive leadership in overseeing the criminal investigative operations for CI Field Offices covering 17 states from Chicago to Boston since September 2021. He previously served as the Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office where he provided executive leadership in planning, directing and evaluating activities of criminal investigation employees in the state of New York and oversaw IRS criminal investigative programs, including tax enforcement, money laundering, narcotics and terrorism, and the Bank Secrecy Act.

Mr. Larsen started his career in law enforcement as a police officer and detective in New Jersey.  He became a Special Agent with IRS CI in 2000 in Warwick, Rhode Island and has held several positions in CI, including Supervisory Special Agent in Bridgeport, Connecticut; HQ Senior Analyst with International Operations; Assistant Special Agent in Charge and Special Agent in Charge of the Newark Field Office in New Jersey; and Acting Deputy Director and Director of International Operations in Washington, DC. As the Acting Director of International Operations, Mr. Larsen oversaw IRS-Criminal Investigation’s comprehensive international strategy in responding to global financial crimes and providing support to combat offshore tax evasion.  This also included oversight of the Narcotics and Counterterrorism section which provides policy guidance and operational coordination support to the field for the investigation of narcotics traffickers and related money laundering organizations in addition to investigations of individuals and organizations believed to be involved in, or supporting, terrorist activities.

Mr. Larsen graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers College in New Brunswick, NJ and has over 30 years’ experience in law enforcement.
