Michael O’Brien
Michael E. O’Brien is a Managing Director in the Office of Government, Regulatory Affairs & Public Policy at PricewaterhouseCoopers. In his current role, Michael represents the firm and its interests before Congress, the Executive Branch, and Federal regulatory agencies. He has represented the firm on matters including the implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley and Dodd-Frank, state and federal taxation, International Financial Reporting Standards, litigation reform, and the competitiveness of the U.S. capital markets. He coordinates with firm leadership to develop positions on important public policy issues and helps manage the political risk strategy for the Firm. Michael researches and develops periodic political analyses for firm distribution and regularly provides political update presentations to firm leadership, sectors and markets, engagement teams and external audiences.
Prior to joining PwC in 2005, Michael served as a Legislative Specialist in the Office of Legislative Affairs at the Securities and Exchange Commission under Chairman William Donaldson. Michael served as Senior Advisor to Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Sheila Bair at the Treasury Department prior to joining the SEC. He began his career in the Office of U.S. Senator Daniel R. Coats of Indiana, serving as a Legislative Assistant and Senior Advisor for five years.
A native New Yorker, Michael received his BA from Georgetown University in 1994 and his MBA in Finance and Public Policy from George Washington University in 2002. He lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland with his three daughters.
