Course Description This session covers the rise of “big data” and AI systems in HR applications. It first covers some of the opportunities that arise when using granular data to identify and screen talent as well as some of the competitive implications of having privileged access to data on potential applicants. Second, it discusses how high-frequency, high-granularity data can transform the management of work, especially inside knowledge-intensive organizations. Third, it introduces some of the social and legal challenges and problems that arise when using algorithms and big data for HR related decision-making. These include issues related to privacy, ethics, and legal compliance. There is a brief discussion of how the pandemic-led changes to the nature of work are likely to influence the use of these technologies.
